WWTBAM Bored

I've been told is a lot like Auburn. Natalie and her business partner are there now looking into opening a shop there. One of their employees is graduating in December and lives in SC and would run it for them.

I'm a bit nervous about them expanding especially in another state, but they've done well so far and I have faith they will make the right decision.

They are doing well, even with the economy like it is?

They are making more profit now than ever. They keep their line of clothing affordable and for some reason, college girls have money to spend!

It really is not as bad as the press want you to believe. I am certainly not saying it is a robust or great or even good economy, it is just not as bad as you may think.

I know that people around me are having issues.

I have a friend that just went into the hospital because she has a disease which has made her temporarily unable to walk. She is holding down three jobs to make ends meet and she is worried now because she doesn't have the income coming into her household.

We really haven't seen it at all here in Auburn. Housing market is still strong & unemployment here is very low.

Plus, given the fact that she will be in the hospital for up to two months, she knows that she is going to have huge medical bills.

Kay, I looked at the My Space or Facebook page (can't remember which it was now) for the shop, and it looks like exactly the kind of place DD would have shopped in her college town.

Actually, she's only 24, so we may have to make a trip to Auburn to see what's in stock!

With all due repect PSM, what does getting sick have to do with the economy? Even with a roaring economy, this friend getting sick and having to deal with that issue as you describe is a problem.

I only wish the best for her and her family.

She has to work three jobs for her family to have enough money to survive.

Until she got sick, I didn't realize how many jobs she had.

I know a bunch of folks here in Charlotte that are alumni of the schools - and one friend who sent a kid to each. I think they are similar and it sounds like what works in Auburn should work in Clemson.

If they have someone they trust to run it, they are a long way towards making it work.

The towns have some similarities but the schools, not so much. Auburn is more like Chapel Hill than Clemson, as the socioeconomic classes of the students are higher. But Clemson is a good expansion point, if they are willing to consider stocking some items that are not high-end. There is nothing to do in Clemson, so a good shopping option will be welcome.

If someone needs to work three jobs to make ends meet, they just might be living beyond their means.

I am sorry she is ill.

They really are not a "high end" store. That seems to be the appeal and part of their success. Competition here is fierce. There's a big GAP store just a half block away. The other local owned stores are very high end.

Wow, that's rough. I'm with Kusch, though, That would be a bad situation no matter what the economy is doing. Even in a good economy, plenty of peeps have trouble making ends meet. I hope she comes through this okay. With freinds like you for support, she's a step ahead.

Not a problem. No way for you to know. These college girls want a new outfit every football weekend. They discovered they couldn't have enough orange and blue stuff during football season, so now they buy plenty. I mean clothes, shoes, jewelry, you name it!

Clemson has similar colors, I think. Buying should be a breeze, just have to change the quantities. They're on their way home. We'll see how fruitful the trip was. They are both shrewd business women and know what has to happen in the beginning to make it work.

I assumed if they had to make so many buying trips that they were on the leading edge of fashion, and thus, pricey. I admit I did not pay much attention to the actual merchandise in the store, once I realized it was for far smaller people (that's not a complaint; they can't stock for every size).
