Sen. Cornyn's Democratic opponent in his reelection campaign will probably be M.J. Hegar, who gave Rep. John Carter a serious run for his money last year. (You may remember Ms. Hegar from "Doors," the ad she used to introduce herself.) Ms. Hegar applied to the Federal Election Commission requesting an advisory opinion that she can use campaign funds for childcare expenses. (Similar requests have been approved in the past.) Sen. Cornyn's campaign just sent its own letter to the Commission, essentially endorsing Ms. Hegar's request and asking them to act quickly. I'm glad to see there are still politicians who don't see politics as a blood sport where you do everything and anything you can to make life difficult for your opponents. --Bob
