A private school in Miami, citing false claims, bars vaccinated teachers from contact with students.

A private school in the fashionable Design District of Miami sent its faculty and staff a letter last week about getting vaccinated against Covid-19. But unlike institutions that have encouraged and even facilitated vaccination for teachers, the school, Centner Academy, did the opposite: One of its co-founders, Leila Centner, informed employees “with a very heavy heart” that if they chose to get a shot, they would have to stay away from students.

In an example of how misinformation threatens the nation’s effort to vaccinate enough Americans to get the coronavirus under control, Ms. Centner, who has frequently shared anti-vaccine posts on Facebook, claimed in the letter that “reports have surfaced recently of non-vaccinated people being negatively impacted by interacting with people who have been vaccinated.”

“Even among our own population, we have at least three women with menstrual cycles impacted after having spent time with a vaccinated person,” she wrote, repeating a false claim that vaccinated people can somehow pass the vaccine to others and thereby affect their reproductive systems. (They can do neither.)

Hello from Michigan...

Michigan Man Appears In Virtual Traffic Court As 'Buttfucker 3000', Almost Charged With Contempt

Michigan Man is at it again causing humorous chaos in a virtual traffic court. This time, a man appeared in Zoom virtual court with the username ‘Buttfucker 3000.’ He explained the title was an “inside joke” but the judge wasn’t amused.

As Jalopnik’s Senior Zoom Fail Correspondent, I feel it’s my solemn duty to report that yet another Michigan resident has let down his state via Zoom. In this case, Nathaniel Saxton appeared in virtual court in Michigan with the username “Buttfucker 3000.” The judge was so not impressed that, as Law & Crime reports, he almost got charged with contempt of court.

Here's one from Colorado:

Colorado Man Accused in Wife's Murder Now Charged with Submitting Presidential Ballot for Trump in Her Name
Prosecutors have filed new charges against Barry Morphew, alleging the man accused of murdering his missing wife submitted a presidential ballot in her name. Morphew was recently arrested on charges of murdering his wife, Suzanne, after she disappeared a year ago. She still has yet to be found.

Court documents show he now faces one felony count for allegedly forging public documents and a misdemeanor mail in ballot offense. According to the arrest affidavit, investigators responded to the Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder’s Office after the clerk made a report of alleged voter fraud in October of 2020. The clerk told investigators that they’d received a presidential ballot from Suzanne even though she was missing. The ballot didn’t contain Suzanne’s signature, but it did list Barry as the witness. The ballot was photographed and seized as a piece of evidence.

On April 22, Barry was asked by FBI agents why he submitted a ballot for Suzanne. “Just because I wanted Trump to win…I know she (Suzanne) was going to vote for Trump anyways,” he told investigators. He also said he thought the “other guys'” were cheating so he would “give him (former president Trump) another vote.” When FBI agents asked him whether he knew submitting a ballot for someone else’s ballot was illegal, he said, “I didn’t know you couldn’t do that for your spouse.”

Florida man charged with killing iguana tries to use ‘stand your ground’ defense

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A judge has rejected the “stand your ground” defense of a Florida man who said he beat an iguana to death only after it attacked him, biting him on the arm.

PJ Nilaja Patterson, 43, must stand trial on a felony animal cruelty charge, Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Dana Gillen ruled recently in denying the unusual defense, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

The “stand your ground” law allows a person who is under attack and reasonably fears death or great bodily harm to use deadly force, even if they could retreat to safety. It has been used in several high-profile cases since it was adopted 16 years ago, but this might be the first time the recipient of deadly force was an animal.

From California wine country:

Man Gets Stuck In Giant Fan At California Vineyard For Two Days Before Finally Being Rescued

An unnamed 38-year-old man was trapped inside a large fan for two days at a vineyard in Northern California before being rescued by firefighters.

According to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Facebook page, a deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near a winery "in a location that made no sense."

The deputy found a hat resting on the piece of farm equipment and then discovered the vehicle owner wedged inside the vineyard fan.

Vinyeard fans are used to circulate the air across vines to prevent grapes from freezing during the colder months.

The man who had climbed into the fan and got stuck for two days was extricated with the assistance of the fire department.

NBC’s Ultimate Slip N’ Slide Competition Show Halted Due to “Explosive Diarrhea”

It’s more than just a bathroom break. Production on NBC’s Ultimate Slip N’ Slide competition series has come to a — uh — stall due to an outbreak of giardiasis, a disease spread from the microscopic giardia parasite. Up to 40 crew members on set succumbed, with a production source reporting that people had “awful explosive diarrhea” and were “forced to run into port-o-potties,” with some even “collapsing,” according to The Wrap.

Ultimate Slip N’ Slide was announced in May as a post-Olympics 10-part series centered around the backyard play-set from the Wham-O company in which a sprinkler or hose squirts on a rubber mat that people glide upon. The show’s hosts were set to be SNL’s Bobby Moynihan and comedian Ron Funches. Funches is seen in Black-ish and Drunk History and voices King Shark on Harley Quinn. Both hosts are reportedly unaffected by the ailment.

In an earlier announcement, NBC said the competition would involve “pairs of siblings, best friends, couples and co-workers [competing] in multiple rounds of games, including Human Pong, Body Bowling, Cornhole and Bocce Fall. The two teams that make it to the final challenge will take on the Big Slipper, a multi-part slide meant for only the bravest and boldest players as it determines who will earn the title of Slip ‘N Slide champion and take home the cash prize.”

If you have to follow someone with explosive diarrhea down the slip 'n slide, you'll find out very soon if they're your best friend or not.

Not far from here:

A woman was finally arrested after she stopped at a McDonald's drive-thru for chicken nuggets in the middle of a 2-hour police chase, report says

Johanna Gardel, a 38-year-old from Massachusetts, was being chased by cops following reports of a stolen vehicle, Worcester Police Department said.

The cops chased Gardell, who refused to pull over, for around two hours, Boston.com reported.

During the chase, she ran red lights, drove in the wrong direction, and rammed into several other vehicles, including two police cruisers, the local media outlet said. A police officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after she hit and dragged them, the New York Post reported.

Hello from China:

Man Hospitalized For Fungal Infection After Becoming "Addicted" To Sniffing His Own Socks

A man has been hospitalized after smelling his socks for too long.

A 37-year-old father (named only Peng in local reports) in Zhangzhou, southeast China, began to feel chest pains. After showing up at a hospital he was admitted as an emergency case, and given an X-ray to determine the cause of his pain, as well as an accompanying cough that he'd developed.

He was diagnosed with a fungal infection of the lungs, and kept in hospital for treatment, while doctors determined the somewhat unusual cause.

SoCal checks in:

A mother and daughter in LA have been charged with murder after performing an illegal butt lift operation, police say

A mother and daughter were charged with murder in connection to a woman who died after receiving an illegal butt lift operation in Los Angeles, California, police said.

The victim, Karissa Rajpaul, 26, shared a video of herself on social media during the operation, which took place at a private home in the Encino neighborhood in September 2020, the Los Angeles Police Department told NBC4.

Rajpaul, who moved to LA from South Africa to try and work in the adult entertainment industry, received three separate procedures and passed away immediately after the third.

Police have arrested and charged Libby Adame and her daughter, Alicia Gomez, with murder.

"These individuals have no medical training," Alan Hamilton, LAPD deputy chief, told ABC7. "They're not experienced and they're putting people's lives at risk."

Men take vehicle with ‘free car’ sign, later find body in trunk

COPIAH CO., Miss. (WLBT) - According to Copiah County Sheriff Byron Swilley, a body was found inside of a vehicle in Copiah County.

Sheriff Swilley said a man drove the vehicle from Byram to Copiah County but realized that there was a body inside the vehicle’s trunk.

Coroner Ellis Stuart said two men found the car in Byram with a “free car” sign on it, with the key inside. They drove the car to Copiah County and looked inside after arriving at a family member’s home.

The body has been identified as 34-year-old Anthony Mccrillis. Stuart said his body had been in there for several days and was found without clothes.

From Turkey:

A drunken construction worker who had been reported missing spent hours with a search party looking for himself on Tuesday, according to reports.

Relatives of Beyhan Mutlu, 50, reportedly became concerned when he didn't return home after a night drinking with his friends in Inegöl in Turkey's Bursa province, The Times reported.

His wife was unable to reach him on his cellphone, and officials were advised that his friends lost him after he wandered into a forest, the Turkish news outlet Daily Sabah said.

A search party was sent for, and Mutlu joined the volunteers in looking through the woods, according to The Times.

During the hourslong search, in the dark of night, a potential rescuer shouted Mutlu's name. It was then that he realized the search party was looking for him. "Who are we looking for? I am here," he reportedly said.

Astros Fans, come on down!!!

A Texas man accidentally shot his friend while watching the Houston Astros game on TV Tuesday night, when a strange game-time ritual went off the rails, according to the Houston Police Department.

A group of friends gathered at an apartment on the city’s north side to watch the Astros face off against the Chicago White Sox, the fourth playoff game between the teams.

According to investigators, the friends were all armed and would “dry fire” their guns in celebration every time the Astros scored a run, KTRK reported.

The Astros won Tuesday night’s game 10-1.

Generally speaking, dry firing a gun means pulling the trigger — thereby triggering the gun’s firing mechanism — while there are no bullets loaded or sitting in the chamber.

However, one person forgot to unload their firearm, the Houston Chronicle reported. When the Astros scored a run around 7 p.m., the man pulled the trigger and a round went flying into his friend’s abdomen, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, police told the newspaper. One person was arrested, and investigators are working with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges should be filed, KTRK reported

Yes, charges should be filed.

I've learned about 25 "10 commandments of gun safety" over the years, but one that's on every list is: Every firearm is a loaded firearm.

Even without some guy shooting his friend, dry firing to celebrate a baseball score strikes me as the height -- OK, low -- of firearms ownership irresponsibility.

And #2 is never point a gun at someone unless you intend to shoot them.

From across the pond:

Bomb squad called to hospital after man with WWII-era mortar stuck in his rectum

GLOUCESTER, Eng. (TND) — A bomb squad was reportedly called to a hospital in England after a man arrived with a mortar shell stuck in his rectum.

Members of the 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment responded to a call from Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on Thursday after the patient was admitted, reports Gloucestershire Live.

The Sun reports medics were fearful the mortar could possibly still be live and therefore could still explode.

"The 57mm mortar round was used by the Royal Artillery in the Second World War as anti-tank rounds, though it would later also be used by British tanks in North Africa," reported Gloucestershire Live.

According to a source, the man was a collector of military memorabilia and somehow "slipped and fell" onto the round.

Report: Monkeys in India going on deadly rampage against dogs after baby monkey killed

LAVOOL, India (WKRC) - Reports from India say that a group of monkeys is going on a deadly revenge mission against one village's dogs.

News18 says it all started in the Beed district after several dogs reportedly killed a baby monkey. Now, within the last month, the village of Lavool, which has a population of 5,000, says nearly all of its dogs -- around 250 -- have been killed by this group of monkeys.

The monkeys are apparently catching dogs, taking them to the tops of trees and tall buildings and throwing them off.

Forest department officials have been contacted about the murderous monkeys, but they were unable to catch any of them. Villagers have also tried to capture the monkeys, but some have been injured in the process.

The monkeys are also now creating a panic as they target small children.
