The trial of a self-published romance writer accused of fatally shooting her chef husband started Monday. Nancy Crampton Brophy has remained in custody since her arrest in September 2018, facing a murder charge in the death of Daniel Brophy, 63, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported. His body was found inside the Oregon Culinary Institute in Portland. He was killed as he prepped for work at the institute around 7:30 a.m. Crampton Brophy is a self-published romance writer who years before her husband's death penned an essay titled “How to Murder Your Husband.” She has also written other mystery novels including " The Wrong Husband."
Brophy is listed on Amazon. Her author page says:
Nancy lives in the beautiful, green, and very wet, Northwest, married to a Chef whose mantra is: life is a science project. As a result, there are chickens and turkeys in her backyard, a fabulous vegetable garden which also grows tobacco for an insecticide and a hot meal on the table every night. For those of you who have longed for this, let her caution you. The old adage is true. Be careful what you wish for, when the gods are truly angry, they grant us our wishes. And the payment is always high, She fights an insidious ten pounds every year of her life.
She has written a series of "Wrong" books, including "The Wrong Husband," mentioned in Vandal's article. That currently ranks #68,000 on the Amazon best seller list. The other titles don't rank nearly that high, so the morbid curiosity factor may be in play here.
I don't want to suggest how Vandal might boost sales of some of his books, but ....
