U.S. service members attending a Memorial Day address by President Trump during his overseas trip to Japan were photographed wearing patches inspired by his campaign slogan, and this may have violated the Pentagon's strict rules barring soldiers from showing political preferences.

Navy spokesman Samuel Boyle said in a statement to CBS News, "Navy leadership is currently reviewing this instance to ensure that the wearing of the patch does not violate DoD policy or regulations."

The group of service members aboard the USS Wasp in Yokosuka, Japan, were photographed by Wall Street Journal reporter Vivian Salama. The airmen posing for the photo all donned matching patches showing what appears to be the president, along with the text, "Make Aircrew Great Again." Wire services photographers also captured images of the same military members.

Meanwhile Congress and the media continue to ignore the crisis at the border, though they don't call it manufactured anymore. They are all whining about him agreeing with Un's assessment of Biden when they have no compunction against accusing trump if everything under the sun here or abroad.

The one Republican who has stood up to Donny (thereby ensuring that he will receive a primary challenge) is got a standing ovation from his constituents. I'm glad to know that there are still some sane Republicans out there.

It's too bad that every single Republican in the Senate, and apparently all but one Republican in the House, are too craven or too wedded to their own political power to do the right thing. Their cowardice will cause long-term damage to the country, because they are demonstrating by their example that even the abuse of your powers to engage in criminal obstruction of justice is perfectly acceptable as long as your party controls the Senate. --Bob

Speaking of false narratives that have been debunked, it turns out that when Administration officials testified in court under oath that the citizenship question they want to add to the census was their very own idea and that their goal was to help enforce the Voting Rights Act to protect the voting rights of minority voters, they were committing perjury.

The idea actually came from Thomas Hofeller, who was a leading Republican redistricting expert until his death. Hofeller's whose express goal (according to the e-mails he wrote, which his daughter discovered while attending to his estate), was to create a structural electoral advantage for "Republicans and Non-Hispanic Whites." Contrary to the testimony of Administration officials who claimed they drafted the DoJ letter requesting the citizenship question their-own-selves with no outside help, it turns out that Hofeller in fact prepared the initial draft of the letter. We know this because they found it in his e-mails.

This is as close to a smoking gun as I've ever seen in litigation. It's certainly not a shock to anyone who's been paying attention that the Administration is willing to lie under oath or that it was lying about this. But it's unusual to see them with their hands caught in the cookie jar. The District Judge presiding over the case has set a sanctions hearing for June 5, 2019.

And yes, when Administration officials engage in misconduct, grave or petty, it's Donny's responsibility. There's an appropriate phrase you may have heard of: "The buck stops here." Contrary to what Donny probably thinks, Harry Truman wasn't referring to money. --Bob
