Was this passed to give prosecutors an additional charge to hit offenders with?

Criminals in Texas are required, by law, to give their victims 24 hours notice, either written or orally, explaining the nature of the crime to be committed. So, when your neighbor says he's going to kill you, at least he's following proper procedure.

I would have liked it if they had cited the Statute. I've never heard of that one, and without the cite, I have practically no way to research it.

Now, I'm pretty sure they got these from some internet site.

This one:

"In Texas, a couple is legally married if they introduce themselves in public as husband and wife three times."

is simply untrue.

And this one:

"It is illegal to make a u-turn in Richardson."

would be an invalid law because the Transportation Code would take priority.

This one:

"A husband in Texas is legally allowed to beat his wife, so long as the object he uses is no larger than his own thumb."

is pure Urban Legend

Yes, whenever someone spouts about those 'crazy laws,' the fact that they never give a citation pretty much confirms that it is bogus.

I used to hang around on a Bored where if the first post was yours, and if you deleted it, you deleted the entire thread. That Bored crashed due to profanity, and TPTB never put it back up with Otto installed. Last night I typed mis-hit on a board where Otto has things battened down pretty tight, and I got mi@@@@.

I'm glad we don't have that first-post-delete feature on this Bored, except for this thread right now.

This was true in England about 800 years ago, for real. That's where we get the phrase "rule of thumb".

Or not. Research is inconclusive whether this one is based in fact or myth.

I sent the station an email saying that I was a law librarian and was unable to find some of these "Krazy" laws in the Texas Code and asked for citations to the written notice law, the marriage declaration, and the "rule of thumb".

I'll report any response.

Richardson is a pretty big city with lots of intersections. If they have a "No U-turn" City Ordinance, it would be invalid (but that's not to say that people don't get tickets for it). If they went to the trouble of properly approving a "No U-Turn" sign for every intersection, that would be valid. I can assure you that there is not a "No U-Turn" sign at every intersection in Richardson.
