a thing

I am trying to describe a thing and don't know what it is called.
It would go on the outdoor balcony/patio. It is made of wood, mostly. There are two rounds disc sections at each end, with a possibly metal core in the middle. The whole thing would be on its side between two chairs, with perhaps a candle or drinks on it.
A table, you would say.
A table that perhaps used to have, I don't know, wire wrapped around the core in the middle?
It is some kind of repurposing project, and if I knew what to call it, I'd know where to look for it.
Thanks for your ideas.

Your description sounds like a wooden cable spool, which previously held a large quantity of telephone line or electrical cable, of the kind that would have been strung from pole to pole along streets or highways.

sc nailed it!
They can make awesome tables & stuff! Don't miss the Duck House, the "Adi-round-ack chair," the planter created in the body of the spool with the spool up on its "wheels" and the one where someone split one down the middle, added wheels and finished it inside & out. I think they come in many sizes and many materials. Good luck!

SC did indeed nail it. There's one sitting next to the campfire ring at turkey camp right now.
We would have played checkers on it last week, but the winds were too high and would have blown the checkers into the fire.

I've got a smaller one, about two feet tall, in my garage. It hasn't told me what it wants to be, yet.
