Synesthesia

I think there was a thread about this awhile back, or on fb, or whatever. Today something on Daily Mail.
Anyway...I see certain letters in particular colors, and numbers. Do you?
A is yellow, E is brown, I is black, O is white, U is blue or purple, 4 is yellow, 5 is black, 7 is green, 8 is sumpin.

I don't see sounds or hear colors or 'see' letters in color, but I do seem to be developing an automatic, uncontrollable eyeroll reflex whenever I see BS. Or B. Or S. Coincidence?

I learned about this term six years ago or so from a (no longer active) blogger I followed who also did a lot of artsy stuff (Like Beebs, a piece of her art hangs in my room). I don't think it was colored letters and numbers with her, but I do recall she said she could "see" music....

I can attest that Beebs is crazy (or downright lunar, if you get my drift), but only in the nicest and funniest possible ways.

Oliver Sachs wrote about this several times. His books are very readable - I started with Musicophilia.
I'm not as actively recommending his final book, which was more of a memoir. I found his stories of patients better than some of his life story. But if you like his writing, it's still pretty good, just not a resource on synesthesia, for instance.

I'm actually surprised that more peeps here don't have it to some extent. Maybe the analytical natures?
I don't taste anything but certainly see colors, shapes, etc in music. Maybe that's what fuels children's art/ concert series things?

You know this often happens when people take LSD & other related drugs, don't you?
With colors aligned with numbers, at least. But it goes away when the "trip" is over.

Did Son#1 never tell you this before now?
I would *like* this neurological feature, but could see where it could get in the way.
Are the colors primary colors, as in a crayon box, or more-subtle shades?
I really like wine reds, but hate crimson, so wouldn't want a number to be always associated with it.

Colors I see are straightforward except for the blue and green. Blue is muted and green is darker.

As a spin-off comment, one of the things my retired art-librarian cousin was discussing with an art-librarian friend (before cuz died) is how amazed today's students, who have been getting all their classic art off the pics on the internet, are when they see the Real Thing.
Or even a faithful reproduction in a book.
Another spin-off comment is a story about a couple friends of mine in college, who did not know each other. When I asked to borrow their notes for a class I'd missed (2 diff classes), they each said "I don't think they will help you".
They each doodled designs in class. No notes; one did Celtic crosses (they were Irish), the other flower patterns (they painted them on their pottery, or embroidered them).
When each looked at a part of their art, they rememberd what the teacher had written on the board. For Celtic Cross person this was math equations, for Flower Pattern person, chemicsl formulae.
Well, Flower Pattern person did have some words, but not many.
