Pea got mad at me last time cuz I didn't mention the impending gus number, so I better announce that 60,000 will be coming around either tomorrow or Saturday.
So get those gratuitous posts ready!

I don't care about the gus but congrats on being the "Boreds 92d Most Prolific Poster". Oh yeah, and that Time Magazine's 2006 Person of the Year.
Which reminds me about last night's live bar trivia:
Which president has appeared on the cover of Time Magazine more than any other person, 55 times?

Well, if it's this weekend I'll probably not be in the chase. Tomorrow is my flex day and Saturday we're out of town, so I offer my congratulations in advance to whomever gets it.

Does a guscatcher look anything like a cowcatcher?

More like a dreamcatcher, I would imagine.

It so happens that dreamcatcher is one of the Where's George people; one of the top ten in Massachusetts, according to his profile. The one and only WG-branded bill I've seen at the Friends of the Library booksale so far came from him.

Funny that you mention "Where's George"... I got that bill yesterday when I stopped to get my $3.75/gal Speedway gas.

Could I get a favor from y'all -- I don't mind who when whom would be correct, but using whom incorrectly instead of who drives me CRAZY. Yeah, yeah, short trip.
So the favor is, if you're not sure, please use who or whoever even if you think whom or whomever might be correct.
This is from Wiktionary:
Whom is an object pronoun, while who is a subject pronoun. One would never use whom as the subject of a verb. One method to use to determine correctness of who vs. whom is to rewrite the sentence to eliminate who or whom. If you would have used he, she, or they, in place of the word, then who is the correct word; if you would have used him, her, or them, then whom is the correct word.
This also applies for whoever and whomever, in which if you would replace the word with 'he' or 'she', then 'who' or 'whoever' is the correct word; if you would use 'him' or 'her' instead, then 'whom' or 'whomever' is correct.
In the famous Mamas & The Papas song Go where you wanna go there is a line, You gotta go where you wanna go, Do what you wanna do With whomever you want to do it, babe. We can rephrase the end of this sentence correctly as "with him or her, babe". We cannot correctly rephrase the sentence as "with he or she, babe" and thus, "whomever" was the correct word in the line of that song.
The problem with this explanation is that over the past decade, people have started using she, he, and they where her, him, or them is correct.
This is correct:
He came to accept my decision, for he and I both resonated with Margaret Mead’s observation: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, ...
This is incorrect and is joined by thousands of other Google hits:
It was very painful for he and I both, but we’re still trying.
Ear's usage is incorrect because of a little monster called internal construction. It should be "whoever gets it" because "whoever" is the subject of its own tiny little sentence within the prepositional phrase. If he had just said, "congratulations . . . to whomever," that would be correct because whomever would be the object in that prepositional phrase.
Anyway, if you always use who or whoever, you'll get no grief from me ever, nor from anybody else around here either.
As always, we thank you for your support.

Are you neglecting the fact that ear is using the
Dative Case?
The dative case is a grammatical case generally used to indicate the noun to whom something is given.
Even by your own rules of thumb, which sounds better: "To him" or "to he"?

Pea, you're the greatest.
There are a couple asses around here that I'd like to kick today. I'll pass because I have a pretty good estimate of the probability of a successful outcome.
Hey, this is great! I still haven't been booted! Maybe some restrictions have been lifted of late. I'll go try ESPN.

Wow, my $1 bill originated in Gatlinburg, TN, almost 2 1/2 years ago.
