Major League Baseball season is already here, having started at 5:30 am this morning. Seattle beat "home team" Oakland 9-7 in a game played in Tokyo. If you missed it, you've got another chance tomorrow . The two teams play again at the same time. The rest of MLB gets underway on March 28 (Seattle and Oakland also play on the 28th, against other opponents)

I just saw that (on MLB.com). After the two Regular Season games in Japan, they come back and play 3 more pre-season games each. Makes no sense. Another gimmick by a major sport.

They've been doing it about every three to four years since 2000, always a week before true Opening Day. They should not be making these regular season games...

Whatever happened to the good old days when the Cincinnati Reds opened the season (because they were the first major league team)?

Mariners get the 1 seed if the playoffs started now.

They'll need to go to a whole bunch of tie-breakers to determine the other seeds.

So if the first regular game is on the first day of spring, why do they call it Spring Training?

Since none of you had what it takes to pick the winning numbers, the jackpot for Saturday will be $625 million. Come on, Flock, join the fun. You too, bazodee. I'm completely non-partisan when it comes to shilling for the Georgia Lottery.

Well, if you slept late you would have missed the news that the Powerball jackpot rolled over.

I had the replay of today's game on as background noise after I got home from work. That's how I learned that news broke during the game that Ichiro was retiring after the game. --Bob

When the Mariners surprisingly signed him to a Major League contract this offseason, it was widely speculated that he was going to play in the Japan series and then retire since his career was pretty much done after his Marlins stint...

And unless Bartolo Colon can latch on somewhere, there will be nobody left in MLB who is older than me....

Oh, no! The last Expo standing is standing no more?

I guess I’m a little surprised. This curtain call will delay his induction into the Hall of Fame by a year. —Bob

Why would Mike Trout give you some of his money?
