The difference is that in the shutdown negotiations, he was playing against people who have the best interest of the American public at heart. In foreign affairs, that's often not the case.Bob78164 wrote:Former Rep. Nancy P does not have the best interest of the public at heart. Not the public they are representing. Otherwise a wall at the border would be a non-issue.silverscreenselect wrote:The difference is that in the shutdown negotiations, he was playing against people who have the best interest of the American public at heart. A clear majority of the American people disagree with you. Including absolutely every Member of the House who represents an inch of land along the southern border. Judging by recent election results, so does a majority of the electorate in your very own Congressional District. If you can’t make the case to your own neighbors, I don’t see how you can expect the rest of us to buy what you’re peddling.BackInTex wrote:Nancy P does not have the best interest of the public at heart. That comment right there shows you do not think through what your hearing from your side of the debate.Bob78164 wrote: It makes border security harder. —Bob
I have had to say this repeatedly to various people for the past month:ghostjmf wrote:.
This shutdown was not two-sided. It belongs to the guy who had this exact deal on the table 35 days ago and got stampeded by the radical right into changing his mind. And it belongs to the Republican Senators who passed it unanimously and then changed their mind when Donny changed his.Appa23 wrote:I have had to say this repeatedly to various people for the past month:ghostjmf wrote:.
The "Government" was not shut down or closed. Something like 75% of the government was funded. Granted, some important aspects of the Government were not funded, and that lack of funding affected the efficiency of the funded portion. For example, it is hard to work on pending litigation when DOJ is unfunded and courts are constantly warning that they will close to non-criminal work.
In the next three weeks, maybe we will get lucky, and real leaders from each party will stop using the remaining budgets/appropriations as a zero sum game. Cut the President, Nancy, and Chuck out, and see how quick progress is made.
The only "silver lining" from the shutdown and all of the concern for federal workers is maybe we will see pay raises this year to help offset the pay gap.
