I Made the Top 1,000
Amazon's latest reviewer listing is out, and I finally cracked the top 1,000 at 995. So, as long as I remain in the top 1,000, the tag "Top 1000 Reviewer" will appear next to my name on all my reviews (including those written well before I made it).
The listings change every Monday, so I could get bumped out. I might become the next Dave Hampton. For those unfamiliar with the reference, Hampton was a running back with the Atlanta Falcons in the 1970s who became the franchise's first 1,000 yard rusher in the last game of the 1972 season (since the seasons were 14 games back then, this was a more significant accomplishment than it is now). They stopped the game at that point and awarded him a game ball. However, rather than pull him from a meaningless game at that point, being the Falcons of that era, they left him in, and he got dumped for a six-yard loss on his next and what proved to be last carry of the season, so he finished at 995 (he did finally get his 1,000 season three years later.

Re: I Made the Top 1,000
The Hampton story reminds me of a baseball game I saw back in 1998. The forgettable Don Wengert was the starting pitcher for the Cubs that day, and in the 6th inning (I can't remember exactly how the play went), but he reached on what was initially ruled a base hit... his first Major League hit. As is tradition, the ball was thrown out of play so he could have it as a souvenir. Later in the game, I noticed a hit disappeared from the Cubs total on the scoreboard, and sure enough, the play was changed to an error on the second baseman. Wengert's eventual career line..... 0 for 19. But he's one of the few (possibly only) hitless player to ever have a first MLB hit ball on his mantle (I really hope he kept it anyway)...

I guess that also could happen via a rainout. --Boblittlebeast13 wrote:The Hampton story reminds me of a baseball game I saw back in 1998. But at least you've gotten several of your books reviewed by a Top 1000 Reviewer.Vandal wrote:My Amazon author rank peaked at 131,986 on October 24.

Re: I Made the Top 1,000
Well, I avoided the Dave Hampton curse. The new rankings are out this week and I've moved up to #964, hopefully high enough to keep me there for a while.

Awesome. That means my book has been reviewed by a top 1000 reviewer. People should go there and vote that review as helpful so it moves up to the book's Top Reviews. https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-revi ...
