I've seen a few disaster movies & they never had this detail

probably because they want their protagonists to survive

This man barely did.

Not all of his 6 cats did, though he tried mightily to save them.

His advice: Put your dog in its cage, throw your cats in the trunk, get out

He emphasizes "its not the wind that gets you, its what the wind blows at you".

Like refrigerators.

Beds.

And you can't open a door against a wall of water.
