"Hurry Up and Get Over Your Hot Flashes"

This surprised me a little bit and made me chuckle.
I am reading a book of letters from Frederick Russell Burnham's family on the frontier in Africa (1893-1896) to family back in the US.
"An American Family on the African Frontier."
They are making plans for the family to follow to Rhodesia when they are settled and Mrs. Burnham writing to her mother-in-law told her that "50 isn't so old" and "hurry up and get over your hot flashes."
Not the kind of thing that you picture written in an 1893 letter to a mother-in-law, but these were earthier people than we often think of them as.
Mrs. Burnham's description of dental treatment in 1893 Durban was also surprisingly modern.
