Prayer request for Beauregard

#1 Post by SpacemanSpiff » Tue Jul 24, 2018 9:45 am

Beauregard the Wonder Hound is our 14 year-old tricolor basset hound. The wonder is that he's lasted this long, since bassets usually have a 10-12 year life span. When we took him to the vet six weeks ago, he said that if he didn't look at his white face, he'd swear he was a 7 year old.

However, over the weekend, he started breathing heavily, even when resting; otherwise, he's fine - normal appetite and activity level. I took him to the vet this morning, and they just called back -- spleen is enlarged (causing the breathing issues) due to lymphoma. So, we're going to do some prednisone to shrink the spleen, and just wait until he stops eating.

Just the same, any prayers for him from the gang would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You and Beau have got 'em.

Prayers for Beau are on the way from me and my furry girls.

Also, you should know that, when Irish (the whippet) started wheezing and breathing heavily, she was discovered to have multiple inoperable tumors in both lungs. Prednisone alone provided her with another year of clearer breathing, chasing bunnies and -- best of all -- life itself. I hope it will give Beau the same kind of "miracle drug" benefits for his spleen and whatever else needs a boost.

My cat Dipper had stomach cancer, treated with prednisone & chemo. It was very hard to catch her, & be certain she had swallowed & not cheek-pocketed or spit out the pills. And you couldn't double-dose the chemo if you weren't sure, because chemo is so deadly on its own.

The prednisone definitely helped her through the pain of both the cancer & the chemo.

She was in remission from cancer for 2 years. And was successfully treated when the cancer came back, except she died from an opportunistic infection we didn't know she had.

The vets were very clear that since animals were used to test these drugs, they should have the benefits of them.

And they never give animals the massively pain-causing amount of chemo because they're animals, & there's no way to explain their pain to them.
