Aside from self-aggrandizement and publicity, why come forward after 30 years with news of an affair with Sen. Ed Brooke? Does she have a memoir coming out?

Why ABC ever considered her to be a serious journalist is beyond my comprehension. Gossip columnist for the television era, at best.

Boy, do I agree with this.

Of course, the moral I take away is "never sleep with anybody, because you don't know what kind of a tell-all jerk they're going to be in their 80s".

Even if the all they tell is entirely flattering & hurts no-one (unlike Walters, who is hurting Brooke's ex-wife & their kids; I'm assuming Brooke was a willing participant in all this, so he's not off the hook, but at least he didn't tell on her, did he?) why the hoot does anyone assume that the all they tell is something they have the right to tell, without the other participant(s)'s agreement? And why would I want to know, even then?

It's good to know that, unlike today, 30 years ago Republican Congressmen were having sex with women.

I agree with everyone else, what would possess a 70 year old woman, who doesn't need the money, to spew crap like this? It's pointless and points out her gracelessness. One would think that as one ages something sinks in. Truly. Holy crap.

To amend this, even if she did need the money who, with any sense of self or responsibility, would do this?

Gotta be pushing a book. I can't think of any other reason. They had her filling in on GMA this week, gushing all over her. That was before her "revealing" tidbit. I haven't seen GMA since then, so I don't know if they are still gushing or not.

People are so funny. Way back in the 1970s Barbara Walters, then a youngish, twice-divorced rising female journalist and Massachusetts Senator Edward Brooke, a married, liberal Republican, African American, had an affair that lasted a couple of years. Both had a lot at stake should word get out. But they were clever and managed to keep it all secret, ruining no one's career or marriage over the dalliance. As these things go — and she was surely not the only reporter who slept with a married politician over the years — that is a good outcome. So why would Walters, who is now old and elegant enough to personify a certain amount of class in her role as dean of The View, tell all in her new memoir, Auditions? OK, we know the answer: money. Sex sells. But I am constantly amazed by those who are so removed from understanding the value of maintaining a truly private, personal sphere in their own lives, that they would rather out themselves than take their tawdry secrets to the grave, as true ladies and gentlemen have traditionally done.

WALTERS: Did you ever think about what Hillary Clinton might be feeling or would feel if she knew? Did you ever think about Hillary Clinton?

LEWINSKY: I did. I think I thought about her a lot. But I never thought she would find out. I was never gonna talk about this publicly.
