WWTBAM Bored

I realize there are always some people left out, but it seems like an awful lot of obscure behind-the-scenes people were mentioned, especially in the first couple of minutes, and a number of noteworthies left out. I didn't include David Ogden Stiers, who died the day before the Oscars, but Indian actress Sridevi, who died last week was included in the tribute, so they obviously were making edits until the end:

IIRC, Bill Paxton was added on to last year's In Memorial (he died on February 25, 2017).
Many of the other folks you list seem to be better known for television roles.

Dorothy Malone won an Oscar, so it's tough to see them ignoring that. I also forgot to mention John Gavin, who was President of the Screen Actors Guild. John Hillerman and John Mahoney are known for one television role each after a lengthy and solid film career.

I think the reason for this may well be the decision to have someone perform a musical number during this montage. That dates back a few years and was done to correct an embarrassing development when people would applaud when their favorite celebrity was mentioned and the tribute was threatening to become a rather morbid popularity contest. It's tougher to applaud over someone performing but the downside of that is that the length of the tribute becomes somewhat more artificially set.

Somehow, Turner manages to produce an equally dignified tribute each year and be more inclusive.

True, but Chuck Berry WAS included. He performed in several Rock 'n Roll movies, but those "roles" were certainly less substantive than those who were snubbed.
