Tooth Fairy Payouts Have Shrunk in the Last Year

It seems the Tooth Fairy didn’t take much notice of the improving economy last year. An annual survey has found that the average amount of money paid out per tooth by the “Tooth Fairy” has dropped from $4.66 to $4.13.

We are cheap-ass parents. IIRC, the most the tooth fairy ever handed out at our house was a buck for a tooth. Granted, as my youngest is almost 21 it's been a while.

As I learned the hard way a while back, the dentist charges a lot more than a dollar per tooth.

I think the kids get way more than a dollar now. Probably more like five!

The last time I left a tooth under my pillow was when I was nine years old, and I got $2 for it. I was still losing teeth after age nine, but my days of believing in the Tooth Fairy ended that night because I pretended to be asleep and I felt my mother's arm reach under my pillow. I confronted my mother and stepfather the next day, then demanded that they stop the Tooth Fairy charade. That quickly led me to debunk the existence of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. No wonder my mother and my stepfather hate me so much. I matured way too young and have refused to believe any of their BS since then.

And yes, I've explained to all of my sons at very early ages that these are all just marketing scams--that the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny are as fake as FOX News.
