Lyrically Speaking - 1/29/18

#1 Post by Cart Pusher » Mon Jan 29, 2018 7:30 am

I love my job. It doesn't get any better than this... rounding up all of the shopping carts that our customers were too lazy to walk 20 feet to return to the fucking corral. Neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor the asshole who thinks our parking lot is a drag strip can stop me from my appointed pushing. Speaking of dream jobs, here's an LSWE game made up of all songs or artists that contain occupations in their name. Maybe I'll try this game out myself if I'm ever allowed to take my break. (BAM!) Oops, that's gonna leave a dent in that nice, new Mercedes....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning

2. So many days you passed me by
See the tears standin' in my eyes
You didn't stop to make me feel better
By leavin' me a card or a letter

3. That's when Billy would take me walkin'
Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'
Then he'd look into my eyes
Lord knows, to my surprise

4. She spent her twenties between the sheets
Life limped along at sub-sonic speeds

5. Here is the main thing I want to say
I'm busy 24 hours a day
I fix broken hearts, I know that I truly can

6. Last night they had a bad one a mile or two down the road
Well my buddy walked out and left this woman burnin' out of control
Well I was down there in bout an hour or so
With a little mouth to mouth she was ready to go

7. If you really like it you can have the rights.
It could make a million for you overnight.
If you must return it you can send it here

8. With all my heart I love you, baby
Stay with me and you will see
My arms will hold you, baby
Never leave, 'cause I believe

9. Coast to coast there's a question
Everybody's always askin' me
People want to know everywhere I go
What can the answer be

10. I make them want me
I like to tease them
They want to touch me
I never let them

11. I can't keep up with what's been going on
I think my heart must just be slowing down
Among the human beings in their designer jeans
Am I the only one who hears the screams

12. So we jumped up on the table
And shouted anarchy
And someone played
A Beach Boys song
On the jukebox

Spoiler
[quote="Cart Pusher"]I love my job.

Please Mr. Postman, Beatles

3. That's when Billy would take me walkin'
Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'
Then he'd look into my eyes
Lord knows, to my surprise

Son of a Preacher Man, Dusty Springfield

They call me the fireman.

7. If you really like it you can have the rights.
It could make a million for you overnight.
If you must return it you can send it here

Paperback writer, Beatles

8. With all my heart I love you, baby
Stay with me and you will see
My arms will hold you, baby
Never leave, 'cause I believe

9. Coast to coast there's a question
Everybody's always askin' me
People want to know everywhere I go
What can the answer be

10. I make them want me
I like to tease them
They want to touch me
I never let them

11. I can't keep up with what's been going on
I think my heart must just be slowing down
Among the human beings in their designer jeans
Am I the only one who hears the screams

12. So we jumped up on the table
And shouted anarchy
And someone played
A Beach Boys song
On the jukebox

Please Mr. Postman - The Carpenters

Why the Carpenters, you ask? Yes, I'm not one of "those" who like to cite some obscure cover artist because it I think it makes me look like one of the music intelligentsia. But 1. This is the version I remember from my childhood and 2. This is another one of those damned interchangeable girl group deals. I'm thinking Marvelettes for some reason, with no confidence whatsoever....

1. Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning
Magic - Pilot

2. So many days you passed me by
See the tears standin' in my eyes
You didn't stop to make me feel better
By leavin' me a card or a letter
Please Mr. Postman - Marvelettes, Beatles or Carpenters (This song was played on Mecca Radio a few nights ago and inspired this game. And it was even The Carpenters version. And, of course, I was planning on putting a Carpenters song in this game until I realized.... duh! They did the first damned song I wrote down...)

3. That's when Billy would take me walkin'
Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'
Then he'd look into my eyes
Lord knows, to my surprise
Son of a Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield

4. She spent her twenties between the sheets
Life limped along at sub-sonic speeds
Lump - The Presidents of the United States of America

5. Here is the main thing I want to say
I'm busy 24 hours a day
I fix broken hearts, I know that I truly can
Handy Man - James Taylor and some old guy a few people mentioned

6. Last night they had a bad one a mile or two down the road
Well my buddy walked out and left this woman burnin' out of control
Well I was down there in bout an hour or so
With a little mouth to mouth she was ready to go
The Fireman - George Strait (For whatever reason, my best friend [back when I had friends] picked up this song not long after it first came out in the 80's, which is the only reason I am familiar with it...)

7. If you really like it you can have the rights.
It could make a million for you overnight.
If you must return it you can send it here
Paperback Writer - Beatles (And, naturally, I also didn't consider the Beatles covered the Postman song. I rarely default to the Motown group when I think of songs with multiple versions, but I guess Please Mr. Postman is an exception...)

8. With all my heart I love you, baby
Stay with me and you will see
My arms will hold you, baby
Never leave, 'cause I believe
Sweet Love - Anita Baker (Baker Street didn't even occur to me... which is fine, that song's a piece of ass)

9. Coast to coast there's a question
Everybody's always askin' me
People want to know everywhere I go
What can the answer be
The Doctor - Doobie Brothers (Their best song, hands down)

10. I make them want me
I like to tease them
They want to touch me
I never let them
I Know What Boys Like - The Waitresses (Two-thirds of the group were waiters)

11. I can't keep up with what's been going on
I think my heart must just be slowing down
Among the human beings in their designer jeans
Am I the only one who hears the screams
Lawyers in Love - Jackson Browne

12. So we jumped up on the table
And shouted anarchy
And someone played
A Beach Boys song
On the jukebox
Punk Rock Girl - Dead Milkmen (This song will appear in any LSWE I can possibly work it into...)
