Apparently American Idol contestants are singing two Neil Diamond songs each tonight.

The set list:
Spoiler
Brooke White: "I Am ... I Said" and "I'm a Believer"
Jason Castro: "Forever in Blue Jeans" and "September Morn"
David Archuleta: "Sweet Caroline" and "America"
Syesha Mercado: "Thank the Lord for the Night Time" and "Hello Again"
David Cook: "I'm Alive" and "All I Really Need Is You"
I would have liked to hear David Cook's interpretation of Sweet Caroline.

My wife and I assumed Cook would sing BOTH the songs Archie is singing. Pfft.

Damn -- I was really hoping someone (other than Gimpuleta) would do "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show."

Hmmm..I'da thought "Holly Holy" would've been a natural for Mr. Cook. He might've had an interesting take on "Solitary Man" or "I've Been This Way Before", too. I am pleased that young David didn't choose "Heartlight", though..that might've put me in a sugar-induced coma. "You Got To Me" might have been a nice change of pace for him. Brooke's choices seem not-so-good for her. She'd be better off with "Song Sung Blue". "I Am..I Said" is WAY too big for her. Jason shoulda had "I'm a Believer". ANYTHING but "September Morn". Too melodramatic for him. I don't much like "Forever in Blue Jeans" but it kinda fits him. "Cracklin' Rosie"? "Kentucky Woman"? "Soolaimon" might be up his alley, but it's not very well known. Then again, neither are Cook's choices. I don't even know the second one. "Hello Again" may put me to sleep.

Too bad this isn't Season 5. I can SO see and hear Taylor Hicks doing "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show" (and Simon telling him he was like a drunk dad at a wedding).

I am not hopeful for tonight but maybe I will be pleasantly surprised. I'm not a huge Diamond fan (especially post-'75 or so), but I like enough of his earlier stuff ok.

Ah!!! "Red Red Wine"! Forgot about that. Perfect for Dread-Boy! Especially in its UB40 arrangement!

Oh brother! How hilarious would it've been to see young David singing "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon"? Right about the time he got to "Soon..you'll need a man", I'd be rolling on the floor.

Then somebody would have to pick me up off the floor.

OK, strike that last idea.

Maddie will be not listening to certain portions of tonight's show.

One of the pervy guys in her drama class really liked her and used to sing "Sweet Madeline" to her. She is traumatized and refuses to listen to "Sweet Caroline" again.

I try to avoid it as well. But only because I don't like it.

And now Paula is hallucinating. Let's vote:

Drunk or

Just in her own little world and not paying attention.

Amazing.

I'll make this short and sweet. In order of my preference...

David Cook - No one close to him tonight. I am now thinking he is going to win this year.

Syesha - I liked her performances. At least there was some life in them. She is definitely Broadway-bound.

David A. - Rock steady but I didn't care for his rendition of "America." Neil's raspy voice was sorely missing as was the vitality of the song.

Brooke - "I'm a Believer" was laughable. Even The Monkees version was better. Her second song was much better.

Jason - I hope he is gone tomorrow. I have had e-nough.

I think Brooke singing "I Am ... I Said" was almost as silly - What shore is Phoenix by? She actually was OK vocally, but the switch from NY to AZ was laughable - I suspect she has something more than a chair to talk to.

Since Neil has been my favourite singer since 1966 I was totally stoked for tonight.

Pretty disappointing overall. David Cook was very good even though I wish he had done either I've Been This Way Before or my favourite Neil song, If You Know What I Mean, but then it's not a perfect world.

I think Jason phoned it in the last 2 weeks and deserves to go. Perhaps he is thinking of Chris Daughtry and doesn't want to win.

I thought Sayesha wouldn't last this long but the last 2 weeks, she has stepped it up even though she will likely go before the final 2 anyway.

Archuleta's "cute" factor is wearing thin.

I have really been sick of Paula's ramblings this year and she cuts into Simon's time so that he only has about 10 seconds to talk. His opinion is the only one I'm ever interested in anyway. She really needs to check into rehab. Now her latest indiocy is that she wants to be on Dancing WIth The Stars. HUH? She's a choreographer for God's sake! If she wanted to be on the show as one of the pros - okay, but really - how stupid.

That was a quick 10 minutes on YouTube, or so. I guess those ol' Neil Diamond songs are harder to sing than they might be assumed to be. In general, performances could have used less velvet glove and more spit.

I have no idea who will be eliminated.
