Not yet, but the UK should prepare. Most of this will go into a savings account so we can attend Mrs. Rexer's parents' 50th wedding anniversary next year.littlebeast13 wrote:Rexer25 wrote:Anyone besides me?
So, do you feel sufficiently stimulated....?

Nope. I have a high SS ending number.Rexer25 wrote:Anyone besides me?
Not yet, but we did get our tax refund direct deposited. Both state and federal.Rexer25 wrote:Anyone besides me?
We are very patriotically going to stimulate the British economy (see previous post).peacock2121 wrote:Not me.
What are you going to stimulate?
Waiting a year and then planning to spend it in another country: that violates the intention of the stimulus package on two separate counts!Rexer25 wrote:Not yet, but the UK should prepare. Your in-laws will love it. Good for you!Rexer25 wrote:We are very patriotically going to stimulate the British economy (see previous post).peacock2121 wrote:Not me.

Congratulations!kusch wrote:No, but I did get a surprise yesterday. Won't quite be able to retire on it however. Back in 1987 a friend of mine in the oil business was trying to "clean" up some stuff and sold me 1 little old mineral acre. I got the division order from the oil company yesterday and they are ready to start paying out the production. My little old .0001468% of the well (based on current production and price) will bring in around $50.00/month. It will take a little over a year to finally get back my original investment after 21 years.
Not bad - one year and then you are rolling in the dough!kusch wrote:No, but I did get a surprise yesterday. Won't quite be able to retire on it however. I (along with a few other people) posted answers weeks ago, when the question was raised.MarleysGh0st wrote:So has anyone found an answer yet to how these stimulus checks will be treated when we file our 2008 income tax forms? Does it reduce the refund we can expect then or is it entirely off-the-books?
I'm thinking the latter is entirely unlikely.
Yes, I remember that we discussed it, but it was the multiplicity of those answers which made me ask again, hoping for one official answer. Maybe even one that was honestly and forthrightly posted by the IRS.Appa23 wrote:I (along with a few other people) posted answers weeks ago, when the question was raised.MarleysGh0st wrote:So has anyone found an answer yet to how these stimulus checks will be treated when we file our 2008 income tax forms? Which is as I thought.Appa23 wrote:It is no different than a few years ago. Think of it as an advance on your tax rebate (abovce and beyond what you otherwise would have received had they not made a temporary change.)
That is scary, but even scarier is the thought of the minime clan loose in Vegas.minimetoo26 wrote:I'm not getting one, but I did get an offer from The Venetian in Las Vegas that says if I cash my tax refund (as if) or stimulus check (as if part deux) at their cage, I could get extra slot credits.
Is that scary, or what? I don't even gamble much there, because I only stay there when I'm with the family and we need a suite. But there is just something so wrong about cashing tax checks in a casino.
Isn't there?

Right from the IRS webpage about the stimulus payments:MarleysGh0st wrote:Yes, I remember that we discussed it, but it was the multiplicity of those answers which made me ask again, hoping for one official answer. That's not as I thought. Let me read your quote again.Appa23 wrote: Right from the IRS webpage about the stimulus payments:
It's an economic stimulus payment that more than 130 million households will receive starting in May. It's not taxable, and it won't reduce your 2007 or 2008 refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.
So, if I get a stimulus check--and that's still not clear, since they are fuzzy about what happens about a certain threshold--there will be no notation of that fact whatsover in next year's 1040.Appa23 wrote:It is no different than a few years ago.
