Ten years ago today the Texas Rangers scored 30 runs in a game, beating the Orioles 30-3.

One oddity was that the Rangers scored in only four innings: 5 in the 4th, 9 in the 6th, 10 in the 8th and 6 in the 9th. After 3 innings the Orioles led 3-0. A Rangers pitcher even got credit for a save for pitching the last three innings. And it was the first game of a doubleheader. The Rangers won the nightcap 9-7.

I was at the game in St. Louis that evening. When I got to my seat after BP, the score was 23-3, and thought that was pretty neat. Then by the time the game started, I saw it had ended 30-3 and was pretty sure that had to be a typo...

The Orioles also only used four pitchers in that game to give up all those runs. LaRussa used to use twice as many just to nail down a shutout...
