Specifically regarding the corona.

I get that eclipses can teach scientists things, but I always assumed that researchers have equipment that can approximate an eclipse-ie block out the sun, and allow them to look at the corona at will.

Am I missing something?

My son was telling me about research in past eclipses that due to the ability to take accurate measurements of distant stars near in line with the sun that are visible during the eclipse that scientists have been able to prove that gravity can bend light. That's cool stuff
