Notre Dame football coach who revived the school's football program from a low ebb in the early 60's. He's known for playing for a controversial tie in a 10-10 game with Michigan State in 1966 that allowed Notre Dame to win the national title that year.
Sadly I best remember him in this Ford station wagon commercial where he first explained the quarterback option (run, pitch to a running back, pass to a receiver) then compared that to the new tailgate on the Ford station wagon that could open to the side like a passenger door window up, open to the side like a passenger door window down, or open down like a truck tailgate.
The commercial says the 3-way door was available on the Grand Torino Squire and the LTD Country Squire. We had that '73 LTD Country Squire. It was a beast.
