Hmm, putting bullet-proof walls around the Eiffel Tower. Anybody see this coming 15 years ago(besides Mark Steyn and his ilk)? Does this count as a change, or no?

"Build Bridges, Not Walls."

It is cool that Europe found a way to do both. They are building walls on their bridges.

Let's see.

Not too long ago, stores didn't use to put up giant planters or trash cans or other barriers in front of their entrances to prevent thieves from crashing cars into windows. Governments also didn't put fences on top of expressway overpasses to keep people from jumping or throwing objects over the side. The original go-around on airport checkpoints originated after the hijackings of planes to Cuba. Go far enough back and no one saw any of those things coming.

As criminals of all varieties get more sophisticated and dangerous, we have to come up with additional safety measures to try to stop them.
