Today we go to the Olympics.
YAY! That every-four-year spectacle that celebrates everything that isn't a real sport and/or that Americans could give a shit less about!
1. For two points, which of these countries competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles?
A) Soviet Union
B) East Germany
C) Romania
D) South Africa (I know the Soviets boycotted... I'm hoping the rest of the Communist Bloc nations joined them)
2. For one point each, give the host city and the year these happened in the Olympics.
a. Nadia Comaneci became the first gymnast to score a perfect 10, and Bruce Jenner won gold in the (men's) decathlon. - 1976 - Montreal
b. Long jumper Bob Beamon broke the world record in that event by almost two feet, and his record stood for the next 23 years. - 1904 - St. Louis
c. Swimmer Mark Spitz won seven gold medals, but the US basketball team lost the gold medal game in a controversial ending. - 1972 - Munich
d. The US sent its first "Dream Team" of NBA stars to compete in basketball. - 1992 - Barcelona (I can still name almost all of the original Dream Team members, but couldn't name that many players who are in the current NBA. Fanny would roll her eyes if she were still here...)
3. For two points, name the two competitors who were involved in the strange incident which was the dominant story at the 1994 Winter Olympics. - WHY!?!?!?!?!?!? Oh, wait a minute, I know this. Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan

Mexico City 1968. The record was finally broken in 1991 by Mike Powell. Powell's record still stands, which means he has held it longer than Beamon did.
