I don't know how familiar our musically inclined BB's are with "Colonel" Bruce Hampton, but I remember him from my college days. He was a fixture on the Atlanta music scene since the late 1960's. His band was originally called the Hampton Grease Band, and his groups went by a number of different names over the years. He died while performing an encore at his own 70th birthday celebration at the Fox Theater last night, a scheduled four-hour event that was a tribute to his long career with numerous celebrities performing.

I was not familiar with him, but wow! A musician couldn't script a better way to go. He had a long, influential career and he collapses onstage during an encore at his 4-hour 70th birthday concert. Too bad no one in the local paper has yet been moved to comment.

RIP, Sir.
