Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is leaving football and going into broadcasting with CBS, even with Dallas planning to release him Tuesday, league sources told ESPN.
Romo has reached a verbal agreement with CBS to be their No. 1 color commentator -- replacing ex-NFL quarterback Phil Simms -- alongside play-by-play veteran Jim Nantz, sources confirmed to ESPN. He also had drawn interest from Fox and NBC. The Sports Business Journal first reported Romo's agreement with CBS.

Even a choking, injured Tony Romo would be better than Simms. A few years back, Phil was at the top of his game, but his inability to criticize anything has turned his color commentary into generic drivel.

Phil Simms Super Bowl MVP - 1
Tony Romo Super Bowl MVP - 0
And in other irrelevant scorekeeping:
Donald Trump Time person of the year -- 1
Hillary Clinton Time person of the year -- 0.

Simms-isms:
Playing well and winning the Super Bowl helped my credibility. Otherwise, when I'd give an opinion, people would say, What has he done? If I didn't win that Super Bowl, I'd probably be coaching somewhere. TV would not be an option for me. So, (winning the Super Bowl) does help.
Of course it looks bad when you're not executing. When things go bad, it's not going to look good.
Remember, for it to be a forward pass, it's got to go forward.
So many QBs throw the ball down the field, that's wrong. Watch Aaron Rodger throw it up the field
As a quarterback, can you throw it where you are looking?
Hardly anything wrong can go bad.
