I wonder whether it's ever before happened that a pitcher was leading the majors in home runs. --Bob

Think 1918-1919.

I looked up the 1918 season on Retrosheet.... and just to give an idea of how much the game has changed, Cardinals right fielder Doug Baird hit the first homerun in the Majors that year....

On the season's FOURTH day! 36 games had been played by the end of that day....

I looked up the 1918 season on Retrosheet.... and just to give an idea of how much the game has changed, Cardinals right fielder Doug Baird hit the first homerun in the Majors that year....
