The NFL owners approved their move to Las Vegas today. They will spend the next two or three years in Oakland until their new stadium is ready.

I'm a bit concerned about the long-term viability of the LV Raiders, as well as the new NHL team, the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Las Vegas is a town with a lot of entertainment options, and what history they've had with pro sports is spotty at best.

The CFL team they had in 1994 had one of the worst attendances at the gate (well, so did all of the US-based teams other than Baltimore) - they still hold the CFL record for fewest people at a game, 2350. (I won't mention the other pro team that played there because the league was a joke, so that wouldn't be fair to the locals.)

The IHL Las Vegas Thunder lasted six years in the 1990s, with an attendance that started in the first year at 8000 per game and ended at 5000 per game in their final season. The more-recent Las Vegas Ranglers, an ECHL team, ranged in the 4000 - 5500 per game range in a 9500 seat arena, good enough for an ECHL team (break-even is considered to be 3500-4000 in that league), but not what you'd want for the NHL.

Their AAA baseball team, the Las Vegas 51s, average about 5000 per game also.

Maybe the town's ready for major league sports, but I'm not sure.

I wouldn't think the season ticket sales would be equal to other teams but their single game purchases would far exceed. Every NFL fan would like to travel to an away game for their team, and what better place?

Not sure about season tickets. There are tons of corporations that might buy them to schmooze their clients.

Looks like a great place to go watch an away Saints game. My Rebels (Ole Miss) were scheduled to play their Rebels (UNLV) a few years ago. My bunch was all excited about that road trip but it got cancelled before we could go. It bummed us out.
