A similar rescue this week in my area:
Dogs rescued in Thailand arrive in Media, Pa.

I was so moved by this story that I plan to adopt a dog from Providence Animal Center. It's been over a year since my Jessie passed away. I don't know if I'll end up with one of the Thai dogs; they have so many adorable pups.

I read this & thought "hey! There was no publicity about a big no-kill shelter in Providence when I adopted TuckerMonster from that "regular" shelter in Pawtucket RI". Then I find out the Providence shelter is in PA.

(All the no-kill shelters in the Boston area turned out to be "you must adopt 2 cats at a time so your cat won't be lonely, & we will pick the companion cat out for you" places.)

There are places named Providence in both Lancaster and Delaware counties.

I guess we can all get the warm and fuzzies over the symbolism of flying 46 dogs here when there are 17,000 similar dog farms and 2,000,000 dogs still eaten in South Korea. Seems like a lot of resources used for little return, especially with no shortage of shelter pets here.

It's the end of the world as we know it: I agree with Spock.

...or the millions of children starving, being sold into slavery, or having bombs strapped on them.

On a similar note, I'm not sure why we get all grossed out by the idea of using dogs for food but not by the idea of using cows for food. (Of course, it's different if they were raised as pets, but I assume the whole point of a dog farm is that they're being raised to be used as food.) --Bob

True, but I have seen downward-facing dog. --Bob

On a possibly unrelated note, McDonald's announced yesterday that they will start serving hamburgers made with fresh beef starting next year.
