Anal retentive hoarding

My wife and I were up at my f-i-l's office cleaning out files last night.

He has one of those electronic label making machines. Over the years he's created nice hanging file folders, with labels, for many unworthy documents, such as every instruction booklet for everything he's purchased.

The one taking the prize last night was a nice heavy hanging folder, with a heavy weight manila folder inserted with a nicely typed label for an aluminum travel mug. We're not talking a Yeti, which doesn't deserve its "manual" saved, but at least the Yeti is worth more than the folders its documents would be stored in.

For those that don't know, and who would as I haven't said anything but noting maybe once or twice my dis-love for the man, my f-i-l was (finally I can use the past tense) a family physician and surgeon. He finally was forced to quit practicing at 86 years old when he asked to be taken to the hospital in December after falling for the umpteeth time at his home. He's been moved from the hospital to the rehab hospital to a skilled nursing facility back to the hospital back to the rehab hospital and is now back in a skilled nursing facility where he will hopefully stay for the remainder.

My burning question is: Does he have a label on a file that has the instructions and warranty information for the label making making machine?

Based on the few episodes I've seen, I don't think true "Hoarders" are that meticulously organized.

This was at his office. His two houses were another story. We have thrown away 20 years of pharmaceutical samples from one house. I'm guessing about 15-20 large yard sized trash bag. Maybe more. I passed on the Viagra samples that expired in 2003. I found some vicodin that expired in the mid-90s. We tried to work with the DEA, county, and everyone else to see how best to dispose. Every resource talked about local resources for expired medicines, but all related to amounts that might be in a normal home. Not from the home of a hoarding doctor that never threw away anything. In the end, they ended up in a dumpster we rented. Every nook and cranny of that house was stacked with stuff. There was a pile of 10 brand new never opened dress shirts. Nice one. Not my size unfortunately.

Oh, and from the house and the office, about 20 copies of Susan Boyle's CD. Half-price books passed on them.

Or a label on the label maker indicating "label maker?"

I find that disturbing.

That would be silly. Almost as silly as the 28 depleted tape cartridges he kept with the label maker.
