He will not be missed
Leslie Ray 'Popeye' Charping was born in Galveston on November 20, 1942 and passed away January 30, 2017, which was 29 years longer than expected and much longer than he deserved.
He leaves behind 2 relieved children; a son Leslie Roy Charping and daughter, Shiela Smith along with six grandchildren and countless other victims including an ex wife, relatives, friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses and random strangers.
Leslie's life served no other obvious purpose, he did not contribute to society or serve his community and he possessed no redeeming qualities besides quick whited sarcasm which was amusing during his sober days.
And my favorite
Leslie's remains will be cremated and kept in the barn until 'Ray,' the family donkey's wood shavings run out.
While I have similar feelings about my f-i-l, and would enjoy publishing something like this, it would be wrong. Wouldn't it?

Before or after he dies?

I would like to show him an advanced copy, just to make sure I got everything right.

I think it would be OK, as long as you gave him a hug first so he knew you were sincere. :D

Be careful. You may encourage him to cling to life longer out of spite.

Oh, I have for some time told folks that the only reason he is still alive is to spite us. If Big Pharm could bottle whatever the active ingredient in spite is, they could make a killing (pardon the pun).

That obituary says far more about his vengeful, despicable children than it says about him. Or as King Lear would say:
It may be so, my lord.
Hear, nature, hear; dear goddess, hear!
Suspend thy purpose, if thou didst intend
To make this creature fruitful!
Into her womb convey sterility!
Dry up in her the organs of increase;
And from her derogate body never spring
A babe to honour her! If she must teem,
Create her child of spleen; that it may live,
And be a thwart disnatured torment to her!
Let it stamp wrinkles in her brow of youth;
With cadent tears fret channels in her cheeks;
Turn all her mother's pains and benefits
To laughter and contempt; that she may feel
How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is
To have a thankless child! Away, away!
