Maybe It's Better Never Than Late

The New England Patriots have been granted trademarks on "Perfect Season" and "19-0" apparently to commemorate their 2007 season. I guess that "18/19 of a Perfect Season" and "18-1" were already taken.
The Patriots actually filed for these trademarks, along with "Road to Perfection," immediately after their AFC Championship game win in January 2008. They proceeded with the application on "Road to Perfection" but requested multiple extensions on the other two. Once they exhausted the maximum allowable number of extensions, they went ahead with the application. As a practical matter, this means that any team trying to use "Perfect Season" in connection with marketing or product sales has to clear it with the Patriots (I'm guessing there won't be as much demand for 19-0 unless and until someone else in the NFL runs the table).
