Lyrically Speaking - 2/1/17

#1 Post by CB Bucknor » Wed Feb 01, 2017 10:10 am

Alright, so LB was late in getting a game posted again.... one more f*ck up like that, and I assure you I'm throwing him out of this contest! The only question is, any of you looking to join him in the locker room? Vandal? Weasel? Sprots? Man, I might need a Tommy John surgery from overusing my ejection arm...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
In the slammin' door
How about some information--please

2. Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
Just like I'd never gone, I knew the song
A young girl with eyes like the desert
It all seems like yesterday, not far away

3. Then I say "I love you"
And foul the situation
"Hey girl I thought we were
The right combination."

4. There's no need for argument
There's no argument at all
And if you never hear from him
That just means he didn't call

5. No one heard a single word you said
They should have seen it in your eyes
What was going around your head

6. Don't turn your back on me, baby.
Don't turn your back on me, baby.
Yes, don't turn your back on me, baby,
Don't mess around with your tricks

7. She's been lookin' like a queen in a sailor's dream
And she don't always say what she really means
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain

8. When we both agreed as lovers
We were better off as friends
That's how it had to be
Yeah, that's how it had to be

9. We'll be singing
When we're winning
We'll be singing

10. I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild

11. You find you're dancin' on that number nine cloud
Put your head together and sing it out loud

12. Wherever you go, whatever you do
You know these reckless thoughts of mine are followin' you
I've fallen for you, whatever you do
'Cause baby you've shown me so many things that I never knew

Notice anything unusual about all of your answers above (3 points)?

Edited to fix spoiler situation and add my image bonus..hit that button by mistake...AGAIN. This is the third time....time to admit I have a problem.
At least I didn't have any answers left that I knew, and of course I'm not getting the theme, so I did answer everything I knew before I hit the damn button.

Ah, February! Brisk, Crisp air! Beautiful winter scenes of pure, freshly fallen white snow coating the ground with a blanket of white! How else can one react but this...

Wow
Based on the songs I knew, other than Black Magic Woman, my theme fit, thus the Foghat wag. And even with that it seems Fleetwood Mac did a version of that song.

But looking at the other answers, I don't know. Did I see a pattern that didn't exist because I only got the few right that fit that pattern?

Stay tuned until tomorrow....

It is almost comically tragic how many players sabotaged their ability to pick up on the theme by supplying incorrect answers... including a few players who rarely make such mistakes!

Happy New Month!
1. I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
In the slammin' door
How about some information--please

2. Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
Just like I'd never gone, I knew the song
A young girl with eyes like the desert
It all seems like yesterday, not far away

3. Then I say "I love you"
And foul the situation
"Hey girl I thought we were
The right combination."

4. There's no need for argument
There's no argument at all
And if you never hear from him
That just means he didn't call

5. No one heard a single word you said
They should have seen it in your eyes
What was going around your head

6. Don't turn your back on me, baby.
Don't turn your back on me, baby.
Yes, don't turn your back on me, baby,
Don't mess around with your tricks

7. She's been lookin' like a queen in a sailor's dream
And she don't always say what she really means
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain

8. When we both agreed as lovers
We were better off as friends
That's how it had to be
Yeah, that's how it had to be

9. We'll be singing
When we're winning
We'll be singing

10. I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild

11. You find you're dancin' on that number nine cloud
Put your head together and sing it out loud

Rock and Roll Fantasy, Cheap Trick

12. Wherever you go, whatever you do
You know these reckless thoughts of mine are followin' you
I've fallen for you, whatever you do
'Cause baby you've shown me so many things that I never knew

Notice anything unusual about all of your answers above (3 points)? No. (I promise this is a correct answer. Do I get my three points?)

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that would fit the theme of today's game.

Image Bonus: Forget the theme... show me your tribute to the month of February.

Notice anything unusual about all of your answers above (3 points)?

Not really. In the songs I know, I had several false starts. I couldn't find any definitive pattern, so I will say they all contain baseball terms.

Stumblin' In - Suzi Quatro and Chris Norman (Since this has been Kroxed twice already, when I realized it fit the theme, I had to include it...)

Notice anything unusual about all of your answers above (3 points)? - Not a single title or artist in this game contains the most popular letter in the alphabet.... E!

As I mentioned last night, it was almost funny how many players inserted a wrong title or artist that would have kept them from spotting the theme. I intentionally tried to pick (1) reasonably well known songs, (2) songs that did not have alternate or parenthetical titles that could possibly throw the theme out, and (3) songs that are widely only associated with a single artist to avoid cover artists fouling things up. With all of these criteria, it was extremely difficult to find 12 songs for this game... especially since I was also trying to avoid, as much as possible, short-worded titles and artists to help drive the point home that the letter E was conscipuously missing from every answer. Congrats to Weasel for being the only one to spot the theme! There will be extra JJC points for that...

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that would fit the theme of today's game.

And just to prove how hard it is to find songs with E-less titles and artists, nobody (other than Weasel) lucked into a valid Krox...

Image Bonus: Forget the theme... show me your tribute to the month of February.

Esto stole the IBB from Vandal at the end with those adorably cute candy hearts, and there's nothing Roger Goodell can do about that...

JJC Points:

vandal gets 2 JJC points for "one for the middle finger"...

frank gets a JJC points for demanding theme credit...

mrk gets a JJC point for a fitting tribute to Groundhog Day...

Krox gets a JJC point for George's cherry...

Nelly gets a JJC point for getting all the songs and artists but not the theme...

Weasel gets 3 JJC points for getting the theme and douchebag Presidents...

BiT gets 2 JJC points for Madonna's title (which invalidated the theme) and for trying to come up with alternative themes...

Panic gets a JJC point for his theme guess...

Sprots gets a JJC point for phony, made up holidays...

Bob gets a JJC point for being correct...

Esto gets a supermax for knowing how to say "I love you"...

Why CB Bucknor? I was going nuts looking for a baseball or umpire or argument theme.

Because it was the first one of my Merry Men I could come up with that didn't have an E in the name...

And to frank's note, had this game not been thought up on the fly, I might have had the time to make the question (and maybe even the intro) match the theme...
