I think this is my favorite example, so far , of the urban sociological examinations of rural Trump voters.

Politico Goes to a Wisconsin Trump county and talks to people just like themselves. Liberal urbanites who have moved to a rural county.

Main Theme of the article-"I can't believe my neighbors are so hateful."

I really like the section of the article on the landowner who beat up the Hmong trespasser. I always thought that liberals were big on context and nuance and so forth.

This anecdote in isolation sounds absolutely horrible. What a racist redneck that 43-YO is.

>>>>He talked about an incident two years ago in which a 64-year-old Laotian Hmong man from an adjacent county was out hunting squirrels and wandered into the woods on the land of a 43-year-old local, who saw him, attacked him and nearly beat him to death. The incident inflamed tensions about race and outsiders. <<<<<

To put things in a little context-a few years ago a Hmong deer hunter shot and killed 6 Wisconsin deer hunters in the woods. That incident is obviously in the back of everybody's mind in incidents like this.

I think my favorite part of the whole article is how the Hmong man peacefully "wandered into the woods on the land of a 43-year-old local" who then nearly beat him to death.

My informed guess about how things have been going in areas like this is that the landowner in question has likely dealt with an endless string of Hmong trespassers and finally snapped in this case.

I just thought of something per Trespassing.

As a general rule, nobody is more protective of the privacy and sanctity of their lands in a rural area than urban refugees are.

I wonder how many of the sanctimonious, urban-refugee Clinton voters in Pepin County described in the article let the Hmong hunt on their land.

I wonder how often land owners beat up 64-year-old white hunters who wander on someone else's property.

I'm sure at some time or another a trespassing white hunter has shot someone else, so by your logic it's open season from now till doomsday.

And there's a big difference between "letting someone hunt on your land" and nearly beating a 64-year-old man to death.

This article is a gift that keeps on giving.

From a paragraph on an ATV park or something.
>>>>There was “opposition from a lot of the liberals who live in fancy houses on the bluffs,” he said. <<<

Minnesota has similar terrain across the Mississippi River with bluffs and so forth. Hmm, why would liberal, urban refugees choose to live in Wisconsin over Minnesota?

When I worked in appraising, I never worked the Wisconsin side, but my boss and the 2 other guys in the office did. They did a lot of work in Pepin County, especially in the urban refugee area.

I learned that it is a lot easier to build a bluff-top house in Wisconsin than it is in Minnesota. Minnesota's regulations are a lot stricter in the area of protecting viewsheds and blufftops and so forth.

Hmm, the liberal, urban refugees from Minnesota in Pepin County, Wisconsin, probably love the idea of regulation, unless it is going to keep them from building a bluff-top house, then they go to a state with less restrictive regulations in that area. Frickin' Hypocrites.

Or they go to a state where property values are lower and they can buy up land more cheaply.

Seems to me that once the guy was disarmed, it's hard to justify continuing to beat him. Are you suggesting here that because some other Hmong somewhere else what a homicidal maniac, it was understandable that this guy would overreact to all Hmong? --Bob
