Lyrically Speaking - 1/16/17

by Gus Gerbil
Good morning everyone, and welcome to the 2017 Lyrically Speaking Not Much Of An Extravaganza Anymore Now That LB Is Too Lazy To Write 10 Weeks Worth Of Games. Boy, that needs to be made into an acronym. Anyway, since the LSNMOAEA....etc. doesn't play by the old rules anymore, it's perfectly alright to lead off with a theme game this year! Yep, the 12 songs below all have something in common that can be found in the title, the artist, or even in a couple of other ways that aren't immediately obvious. It shouldn't be too hard.... after all, I'm just a gerbil. It's those hamsters and squirrels who are the evil ones who'd try to trip the reigning champion T Bone up on the very first game....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme...

1. Turning me on, turning me off
Making me feel like I want too much
Living with you is just putting
Me through it all of the time

2. I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean...

3. It's at times like this
The great heaven knows
That we wish we had
Not so many clothes

4. Before I go insane
I hold my pillow to my head
And spring up in my bed
Screaming out the words I dread

5. And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you, be with you night and day

6. I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night

7. I see the crystal raindrops fall
And the beauty of it all
That's when the sun comes shining through

8. They took the credit for your second symphony
Rewritten by machine on new technology
And now I understand the problems you can see

9. Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body`s aching all the time

10. You oughta see her on a road course or a quarter mile
This little modified Pon-Pon has got plenty of style
She beats the gassers and the rail jobs, really drives 'em wii-yiii-yiiild

11. Twelve men heard the call
Ready to give their all
They bring hope where they are seen

12. No is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes, it's the saddest experience you'll ever know

3. It's at times like this
The great heaven knows
That we wish we had
Not so many clothes
Strip - Adam Ant (I originally had a different song here.... until I wrote today's game)

4. Before I go insane
I hold my pillow to my head
And spring up in my bed
Screaming out the words I dread
I Think I Love You - Partridge Family

5. And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you, be with you night and day
New Years Day - U2

6. I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

7. I see the crystal raindrops fall
And the beauty of it all
That's when the sun comes shining through
Just The Two Of Us - Grover Washington with Bill Withers

8. They took the credit for your second symphony
Rewritten by machine on new technology
And now I understand the problems you can see
Video Killed The Radio Star - Buggles

9. Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body`s aching all the time
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen (I originally had Alan Jackson's "Mercury Blues" [a Mecca Radio staple] here, but am making a concerted effort to make the games more user friendly this time around. BTW, this is why I said the theme connection wasn't always obvious for each song...)

10. You oughta see her on a road course or a quarter mile
This little modified Pon-Pon has got plenty of style
She beats the gassers and the rail jobs, really drives 'em wii-yiii-yiiild
GTO - Ronnie and the Daytonas

11. Twelve men heard the call
Ready to give their all
They bring hope where they are seen
The A Team - SSgt. Barry Sadler

12. No is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes, it's the saddest experience you'll ever know
One - Three Dog Night (Because I already used U2, and their "One" turns up in every lyrical Tangredi game!)

Theme? - Things that are/were FIRST!

1. First book of the Bible
2. First place medal
3. First (Biblical) man
4. First gift in that annoying Xmas song
5. First day of the year
6. First man on the moon (It was a coincidence that the Neil Young song was also in this game)
7. First President
8. First video on MTV
9. First planet from the sun
10. First race on the Whatever It's Called Now Cup circuit in NASCAR
11. First letter
12. First number (Though mrkelley got credit for showing off his math skillz)

Kroxquo Bonus - Name another song with artist that could fit the theme of today's game.

While I accepted any theme guess that mentioned "FIRST", your Krox had to in some way reference another famous first as the songs in this game did to get credit.

Image Bonus - If you know the theme, show me an appropriate image!

Only four qualifying images to choose from.... eeney, meeny, miney, moe... I liked elwood's tribute to the Special Olympics best, so het gets the inaugural 5 point Image Bonus Bonus!

Gus Gerbil wrote:Good morning everyone, and welcome to the 2017 Lyrically Speaking Not Much Of An Extravaganza Anymore Now That LB Is Too Lazy To Write 10 Weeks Worth Of Games.
