RIP The Pioneer Cabin Tree

The Pioneer Cabin Tree, a giant sequoia in Calaveras Big Trees State Park that was tunneled through in the 1880s, has fallen due to severe winter weather. It was believed to be hundreds of years old.

How about the fact that 60% of the base the the tree was removed? Probably by Whigs.

A bit tongue in cheek, but the structural integrity of the tree was definitely weakened by it being hollowed out at the bottom. Nowadays, environmentalists would put up a fight if someone tried to do this to a protected species like the redwood .....

I didn't know you could make wigs out of wood. I'd suspect George Washington used it for his teeth but I'm a century off here.
