Even Mariah Carey's Given Up On 2016...

...News is breaking that she was apparently caught lip-syncing live on Seacrest's New Year's Eve telecast on ABC. Ended up saying something to the crowd like 'You finish the (first) song', gave up and walked off during the second. I'm attempting to confirm now; was watching Cooper/Griffin (way funner than Seacrest), and Richard (500 Questions escapee) Quest mentioned it towards the end of their four 1/2 hour CNN telecast.

Oh, it's confirmed. Twitter's already broken, with one particulary dodgy tweet saying hearing- and sight-impaired author/advocate Helen Keller could have done a better lip-sync. Numerous YouTube posts already no doubt giving that site's copyright people a headache.

On the bright side, Mariah's almost certain to be the answer to a SyndieBAM question if the show gets renewed.
She did stick around for the ball drop, too.

We saw it. It was horrible. At one point she knelt down mouth closed with her screaming a high pitch in the music.

One tweet was "Who would have thought the last death of 2016 would have been Mariah Carey's career?"

More from twitter:
Ohio State should thank Mariah Carey. They no longer have the worst performance of the night.
Even Milli Vanilli is embarrassed by Mariah Carey's debacle.
Operator: "911 what's your emergency?"
Person: "Mariah Carey just bombed Times Square."
Maybe Mariah Carey didn't give the performance that 2016 wanted, but she gave the performance 2016 deserved.

Watched it, as I was waiting for ball-drop. Am not a Carey fan. Nevertheless, does anyone really think those production #s are done w/o a tape being played in back for "assurance"? Carey was miffed that it hadn't been rehearsed (so she told the crowd) & the # wasn't going according to plan, so she ad-libbed some grumbles as her famous "whistle-register" notes played faintly in the background. She pretended to sing for maybe 30 seconds.

She had sung (or lip-synched) "Auld Lange Syne" convincingly right before the botched #.

I immediately googled "Mariah Carey meltdown" & got treated to several years worth. I'd say her career, & diva rep, remains intact. Seacrest light-heartedly (bet he wanted to throttle her) said on camera "her fans will clap for anything she does".

Very unprofessional of her, in my book. The late, very much lamented Minnie Riperton is queen of whistle register anyway. I don't have one. Believe me, I've tried.

Really hard to argue with that one.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Why is Mariah Carey even still relevant?

For that matter... why is the ball drop and NYE still relevant? That should've came and went with Dick Clark...

I am turning more and more into Grandpa Beast by the day (where's my cane?)....

Actually, beast, the Times Square ball drop dates back to just after the turn of the 20th Century.

Dick Clark was old but he wasn't THAT old. :D

The whole Times Square / Ball Drop thing has been irrelevant ever since Guy Lombardo died. That youngster Clark had no business being there.

I must be older than you. Get off my lawn!
