The Boney 500: Song #2

We have arrived at the penultimate day of the Boneys 500 countdown. Tomorrow my favorite song of all time will be revealed. Today, in the runnerup spot, it's my favorite Beatles song.

2. STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER-THE BEATLES (1967)
Album: Magical Mystery Tour

Eerie and haunting, yet quite lovely in its own way. Originally intended for The "Sgt. Pepper" album along with "Penny Lane" (imagine what that album
would've been like with THOSE two songs!), they were instead released as the two sides of a single when their record label was getting antsy for
something they could put out on the market while the lengthy (for the time) recording sessions "dragged on". The two songs shared a theme...childhood
memories. And they captured perfectly the perceived personas of their composers. While McCartney's music and lyrics suggested crisp, clear images of a
Liverpool street scene, Lennon's memories of an orphanage near his home and the garden area behind the home where he played as a child are presented in
a more surreal, hazy and dreamlike manner. A perfect example of the Yin and Yang that was Lennon and McCartney (although their stereotyped images are a
bit simplistic, as both demonstrated equal ability to dabble in the other's playground, so to speak). While I certainly have a great deal of fondness for
"Penny Lane", it did not make my Top 350, whereas this one...well, you see where it's ranked. It's another one of those songs that takes me to another
world..I close my eyes and let Mr. Lennon take me to that place where "nothing is real" and there's "nothing to get hung about". Audio link only..click on the arrow to the left of the song title (eighth one down)

Well, I've let the cat out of the bag insofar as you now know my favorite song is NOT by the Beatles. So who takes the top spot, then? You'll know tomorrow.

My WAG for number 1 based on what I think your musical tastes seem to be is:
Spoiler
Stairway to Heaven.
Thanks for doing this T-Bone. It is a lot different than I would have on my list, but no one's list would ever be identical. I looked forward every day to see what the next song and album would be.

Shoot! That means my guess was wrong -- I said Yesterday. I was so sure a Beatles song would be #1.

On to the real deal . . .
