At least I have good news as this sucky year ends

#1 Post by SpacemanSpiff » Wed Dec 28, 2016 8:15 pm

I have a job offer. Just finalizing a few details. Better still, it looks like it will be a direct hire, rather than a temp-to-hire deal.

This is extremely well timed. I was told last Wednesday that TPTB in Germany decided my last day at GRW would be January 6. This way I can start on January 9 at the new job.

I'll fill in the details as they are worked out.

Thanks to all of y'all for your support!

Whoo hoo!

Got a formal (verbal) offer from the principals yesterday. Money was what I was looking for (i.e., what I would have been making here if I had actually been hired instead of left as a temp), plus a bonus for getting their accounting systems moved from 1960 to 2015, about another 10% over the salary. I also managed to get two weeks of vacation the first year instead of having to wait for a year.

And... never underestimate the value of contacts, even if unintended. In the first interview, one of the principal owners, when she gave me her business card, noted that they had gone to an orange color motif for the home office.

Me: (jokingly) It looks great, but as a fan of Alabama, orange is a bad color.
Her: My daughter just got a full scholarship to Alabama in Engineering.

Later, when I had the interview with one of their accountants, she said that the agency I used had told them I had been on Jeopardy! (I don't like to brag about it, but I fully endorse the agency doing so). I said I had been on a few years ago. She said "My mother-in-law was on the show two years ago."

(Bazinga #2!)

I'm sure these didn't majorly impact anything, but it sure as hell didn't hurt.

Congrats on the new job!
