There's big news in Rivendell - my grandson rolled over unassisted for the first time yesterday evening. My son called to tell me. He (the grandson) has been trying for a week or two to master this skill and now he's done so. Won't be long before he'll be crawling.

I love that your son was so excited that he called to tell you.
So sweet.

He won't be so excited when the kid gets mobile enough to start hiding or running away. One of my nieces learned to roll over and over. My sister panicked once when the kid disappeared. She was lying on the floor and had rolled. Since her head was the heavy end, she had rolled at an angle and gone under the coffee table and out of sight.
With a second kid, mobility is when the sibling rivalry starts. As soon as #2 can grab a toy belonging to #1, it's all downhill from there.

Maddie was about three or four weeks old and she rolled herself over on her changing table and rolled herself off.
Jeff was watching her at the time and didn't tell me. Later that night she started vomiting a lot.
We took her to the pediatrician and the pediatrician told me about Maddie rolling off the changing table, not Jeff.
To this day, we blame that incident for anything bad that happens to Maddie.

Not for the accident, but for hiding it from you.

I totally agree.
