68. BAKER STREET-GERRY RAFFERTY (1978)
Album: City To City

Yeah, the street in the title brings up thoughts of Mr. Holmes, but the music sounds more like the
soundtrack from a Sam Spade movie. I hear this and I see a dark, fog-fueled empty street save for a
solitary figure walking down it. And the saxophone. That saxophone! There are very few hooks in the
history of pop music more persuasive than that sax.




67. DO WAH DIDDY DIDDY-MANFRED MANN (1964)
Album: The Manfred Mann Album

The short intro jumps out and grabs your attention so that Paul Jones can set the stage ("There she was,
just a'walkin' down the street, singin'.."), and off we go into one of the best sing-a-long songs ever.
For me, it was love at first listen. 52 years later, I'm still singin' along.

I LOVE Baker Street. I wish I had $5 for every time I've requested RadioDude to play it over the years. You're right, it's the sax.

If you're talking about the 80's song by Quarterflash, it is titled, "Harden My Heart."
