RIP Raoul Wallenberg

Although there's a good chance this happened a long time ago, the Swedish government today, at the request of his family, declared Wallenberg officially dead. They set the date of death as July 31, 1952, approximately five years after he was believed to have disappeared (although he was last seen in 1945).

A great hero. That no entity ever rescued him from his eventual Soviet prison is horrific.

I agree. I consider him to be among the greatest men of the 20th century.
When the USPS came out with Wallenberg stamps a couple of decades or so ago, I went to buy several sheets. The postal clerk asked, "Who is he, anyway?' As I did my best to explain, I realized that the other postal employees standing nearby, along with the people in line behind me, were listening as well because they apparently did not know either. That made me very sad.
