Dems National Conv.

Wish I could volunteer more time -- the Dems National Convention Host Committee just sent out a call for Volunteer Captains and Area Directors. Right now as a volunteer, I'm guaranteed ONE shift during the convention, and there's virtually no chance it will be in the Pepsi Center. As a captain or director, I'd probably be assured access to the convention after 50-60 volunteer hours which I won't be able to work. I'm guessing that one of the first duties of the captains/directors will be to make up schedules for 3,000+ volunteers, and I know I'd have to be in Denver to do that. Oh well, it'll be fun to be there.

I thought you were going to be there for a long time!

I have been telling people you would.

Where did I get that impression?

I am disappointed for you.

You got the impression because that's the impression I had. Sometime in Janaury, the State Dems sent an E-mail with a slightly desperate tone to everybody they have an E-mail for saying that they needed 3,500 volunteers. I'm guessing that they got about 10,000 replies, not the 2,000 I envisioned.

They keep changing the Volunteer Profile -- the last one added a question about whether we could bring a laptop to the fray. It also asked about how we intended to get to our assigned tasks. I checked everything except taking a cab.

I'm guessing that the volunteer pool is now down to about 7,000. I'm also guessing that numbers will go down more by convention time and that I will work more than one shift, maybe even at the convention. Hope so anyway.

I applaud that your interest and commitment does not waver, no matter how much one could say you get 'jerked around'.

I admire that in a volunteer.
