Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations for 2017

The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2017 are in, and the list includes Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Depeche Mode, Electric Light Orchestra, Jane's Addiction, Janet Jackson, Journey, the Cars, the Zombies and Yes. The rest of this year's hopefuls are Bad Brains, Chaka Khan, Chic, J. Geils Band, Joan Baez, Joe Tex, Kraftwerk, MC5 and Steppenwolf.

As always, it's a crap shoot to see who makes it. I think Yes, ELO, Journey, the Cars and J Geils Band belong.

No sign of these guys either. I guess almost 50 years doesn't count for anything.

I see that they're still trying to get Chic in the R&RHoF. What is this now, their 11th nomination? They have truly become the Susan Lucci of the R&RHoF. Of course, even La Lucci eventually won an Emmy. The upshot here is that the new musical acts get s**ttier as the minimum eligibility year gets later--the latest musical debut year for R&RHoF consideration is now 1991/92--so Chic will almost certainly get in eventually by default. But it won't be this year, either.

Having said that, it's about damn time that ELO got nominated!
