The Boney 500: Songs 102 and 101

102. CARRY ON WAYWARD SON-KANSAS (1976)
Album: Leftoverture

Try as it might, classic rock radio just can't seem to make me sick of this song. I still sing harmony parts and head bang
in the appropriate spots whenever I hear it.

101. DAYDREAM BELIEVER-THE MONKEES (1967)
Album: The Birds, The Bees, & The Monkees

No, I wasn't much of a Davy fan, but there were a few of his songs that I liked..this being a major example. Hard to resist
this pop confection...the arrangement is solid, strings and brass used effectively, Peter Tork's piano intro pulls the
listener in immediately...and yes, Davy's vocal is charming, I must admit. A classic hit of the 60's. One other thing...look
at that little dance Davy does..then go look up Guns 'n Roses' video for "Sweet Child O' Mine"...Axl Rose is doing the Davy dance!
I've been saying this for years..

Guns n' Roses video:

"#$%&@*&"-Donald F. Duck

I saw a "rockumentary" on VH1 about Kansas recently as they looked back to the peak of their success following the release of Leftoverture. It was interesting to see how the song came together and how they managed to ride the wave for a few years. Some bands aren't so lucky.

I still love The Monkees, even the Davy songs!

I never appreciated how great this song was when The Monkees' Show reruns on Nickelodeon made me a huge fan of the band and their music as an 11-12 year old kid. Maybe because I was already familiar with it from my parents' oldies radio station, and it was the newly discovered gems I only heard on the show (Like "Star Collector," "Words" and "Here Comes Tomorrow") that tickled my fancy more...

I hope the band has another appearance or ten in the Top 100!
