52. FACE THE MUSIC-ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA (1975)

ELO had been knocking on the door to serious success but they really broke through with this album. Ya got yer great hit
singles ("Evil Woman", "Strange Magic"), ya got yer spooky opening leading into a killer instrumental ("Fire On High"),
ya got yer rockers ("Poker") and Beatle flavored ballads ("Waterfall", "One Summer Dream"). Basically, ya got yer excellent
album here.

I used "Fire On High" in my favorite instrumentals LSWE game a while back. I miss hearing it occasionally on the classic rock stations...

A good one indeed. I was listening to an old podcast last night where a panel was discussing Beatle influenced music and one of them of course brought up ELO, and mentioned a quote from John Lennon back around the time this was out, saying that if the Beatles had stayed together, they'd likely be doing the kind of things that ELO was doing. Strange how John wound up being the only one of the 4 who never worked with ELO leader Jeff Lynne (except posthumously with the two home demos Lynne used as the basis for the Beatle "reunion" songs "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love").

I've heard the hits but not the album. Time to remedy that.

ELO was sure prolific back in the day.
