110. SHE'S SO HIGH-TAL BACHMAN (1999)
Album: Tal Bachman

Son of Randy Bachman (The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive), he scored a hit for himself with this superb piece of
ear candy. I mean, when he soars into that falsetto in the chorus, it's pure pop heaven. Excellent use of dynamics, too.




109. WALK AWAY RENEE-THE LEFT BANKE (1966)
Album: Walk Away Renee/Pretty Ballerina

It's been categorized as "baroque pop". Mix a bit of harpsichord and some orchestration with an alto flute solo, throw in a
sad, haunting melody, and you have a song that 50 years later still sounds unusual, and still sounds great. It's an oldie
that seems to have stood the test of time.

I'm pretty sure there was a song for every girl's name during the 60s and 70s. Good to see Renee get one, too (whoever she may be).

Maybe I'm not listening to the radio enough, but I don't see today's popular girl names getting their own songs. Where is the ode to:

Olivia
Emily
Dakota
Emma
Isabella

Perhaps their songs are still waiting to be written.


As for Tal Bachman, I wonder what happened to him. He released one other album but has otherwise disappeared from the music scene.

We would never have named our daughters something that didn't have a song to go with it.

Emily is not a good example since it is more of a retro name than the others.

I'm pretty sure I'll be busted on all of these, but that's okay.

TBH, John Conlee's "Miss Emily's Picture" was the only one I knew offhand, though since Emily was the most popular name for about 5 years, I knew there'd be more.

For our others there is:

Katie Wants a Fast One - Steve Wariner
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond

We tagged each girl with these songs at some point so they all "know" they are theirs.

Nothing for the boy Travis.

I can think of See Emily Play by Pink Floyd and Emma by Hot Chocolate.

This is why I'm so horrible at Lyrically Speaking. I would have sworn that I never heard of the song or the artist before I played the video. OK, I'm heard the song many times, but I still don't remember ever hearing of Tal Bachman.

As for Walk Away, Renee, I probably woulda got both, but if I did get the artist, I'm confident I woulda called it Left Bank.
