The Boney 500: Album #55

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Mon Oct 10, 2016 10:11 am

It's Monday, and time to resume the countdowns. Here's today's album:

55. HELP!-THE BEATLES (1965)

Just to be clear here, we are talking the UK version (which is now the standard version everywhere), not the version we had in
the US, which had only the movie songs filled out by instrumental music from the movie score. The UK version had the 7 songs
from the movie on side one (I like 'em all), and 7 more songs on side two, including "Yesterday" and "I've Just Seen A Face". The standard cd
available everywhere these days has these fourteen songs on it. With each of those 7 movie songs, I can see the scene that it plays
under in the movie in my head.

No youtube available for this, so this will have to do. Click on the arrow next to the first song, and the songs should automatically play in sequence:

There has always been a soft spot in my heart for this album. Songs like "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" and "You Like Me Too Much" are just timeless.

Can this album really be over 50 years old? How'd that happen?

We have undoubtedly somehow been switched to an alternate reality in which I am also a year shy of 60. There can be no other explanation.

This was huge where I grew up. We bought photos and other memorabilia, we watched it three or four times, and those who wanted to scream throughout a pretty good percentage of the movie did so.

I didn't appreciate some of the music until months later when I heard it.
